Adventure Outfitters was founded by Matt Mitchell and Kay Wentworth (shown in picture returning from their first ascent in 1988) and is operated by Matt Mitchell and Bill Wilson. Bill, a trip leader with Adventure Outfitters was on our first commercial ascent in 1992. Matt lives in Prescott, Arizona and Bill lives in Park City, Utah. We specialize in Mt. Kilimanjaro hikes and luxury Photo safaris in Tanzania and Kenya. Adventure Outfitters is based in Prescott Arizona and has been in operation since 1992. We keep our prices low by working directly with the organizers of the climb in Moshi Tanzania. Your local host in Moshi Tanzania is one of the largest and most popular Kilimanjaro climb organizers in Tanzania. We have been working with them since 1992. All local guides are certified by the Mt. Kilimanjaro Park service. Our land prices are all inclusive so you need only concern yourself with booking air transportation. By focusing our efforts in this diversely-rich geographic region we are able to build and maintain reliable Kenyan and Tanzanian relationships we can count on year after year. Having reliable contacts allows us to provide accurate information on subjects such as immunizations, visa entry requirements, political conditions etc. If you have a specific question that we can't answer, we can probably get the answer for you within 48 hours! In most cases clients are picked up at the airport and delivered to a reserved hotel room where they can rest or prepare for the holiday of a lifetime. Below are commonly asked questions: ADVENTURE OUTFITTERS is significantly less expensive while maintaining a quality excursion. Everyone who climbs Kilimanjaro receives the same accommodations. Guides and porters are licensed and organized to serve all hikers equally. They serve approximately the same food and have nearly identical accommodations in all aspects of the hike. All of our safaris are luxury safaris. In most cases you have a choice of staying In a hotel or tented camp. FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BEGIN MAKING ARRANGEMENTS? To obtain the optimum air fare you need to begin planning 3 to 4 months in advance. Airfare costs to Nairobi and Kilimanjaro Int. Airport vary significantly and flight space fills up fast. The busiest seasons for East Africa are July, August, September, December, January and February. Customized climbs and safaris can depart any day of the year. Many hotels charge a holiday season surcharge during Christmas and New Years. You also need to get immunizations and obtain passports and visas. Passports can take up to 60 days to obtain. It is currently not necessary for Americans to obtain visas for Kenya. Contact your local county health dept. for a complete assessment of immunizations necessary. The list can change several times a year depending upon conditions abroad. Do not wait until the last minute as some immunizations can not be given concurrently. We can provide phone #'s and email address of people who have taken this trip. NECESSARY TO CLIMB As part of our 10- page information packet we provide all customers with a complete list of recommended items to take on a Kilimanjaro hike or safari. Skills needed: To climb Kilimanjaro, you need to be in good health and moderately good physical condition. You should be able to hike for 10 miles in one day. You should work out aerobically several times a week before the climb. You are not required to posses technical climbing skills. The summit hike takes place in the very early morning hours and is strenuous. Adventure Outfitters success rate on reaching the summit has been higher than 90% compared to an overall success rate of about 65%. We attribute this high success rate of our customers to physical and mental preparation. * Room rates are quoted double occupancy.
